Ron Friesen has worked in the area of family law since 1975. He joined Watts McCray in 2006, working exclusively in this area of specialisation and became a Partner in 2011. In 2013, Ron’s expertise was recognised by the Law Society of New South Wales when he was awarded accreditation as a specialist in family law.

Ron Friesen is one of 14 such specialists at Watts McCray. Ron has also meticulously applied his detailed knowledge to a number of international family law issues.

No matter what your family law issue, Ron’s extensive experience, combined with his strong listening and communication skills, will help you achieve the best solution. He will support you with complex children and financial issues, and works with married, de facto and same-sex couples. Important areas he tackles include child support needs, domestic violence issues and care proceedings.

Ron brings his skills as a collaborative lawyer and advocate to the table when dealing with issues you need to resolve and he understands you want efficient and effective service so you are free to carry on with your life.

After 13 years in government employment, including as Chamber Magistrate, Clerk of the Court, Registrar and Coroner, Ron entered private practice in 1988 in a large regional town in New South Wales. During this phase of his career he specialised in family law and criminal law. In 1998, Ron moved to Canberra to pursue his passion to work exclusively in the family law arena.

Ron’s expertise is recognised and respected in the legal community. He has been a member of the Family Law Section of the Law Council of Australia since 1992 and a member of the Law Society of the Australian Capital Territory and the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals. Ron gives freely of his time providing family law legal advice as a member of the ACT Law Society Legal Advice Bureau and as a coach and adjudicator in the Schools Mock Trial Competition.

Ron was raised and educated in Campbelltown, New South Wales. He studied law part time while working in the NSW Attorney General’s Department.
