AIFLAM Mediation Accreditation Course

Watts McCray Lawyers congratulates the successful participants on the completion of the AIFLAM (Australian Institute of Family Law Arbitrators and Mediators) Mediation Accreditation Course today.  For the first time the AIFLAM Mediation course was conducted on the ‘Zoom’ video platform.  Watts McCray Lawyers’ Special Counsel, Maurice Edwards, was one of the mediators from around the country who assisted in the coaching and assessment of the course participants.

In the last two months Family Law mediations have almost exclusively been conducted on a video conferencing platform.  Maurice is conducting mediations (and also arbitrations) at Watts McCray on the Zoom platform during this Covid-19 pandemic.  Maurice has said:

AIFLAM Mediation Accreditation Course“Although nothing can match actual face-to-face mediation, the use of Zoom video conferencing with the facilities of ‘waiting rooms’, ‘breakout rooms’ and a ‘shared screen’ has now entrenched online mediation as a force in Alternate Dispute Resolution (ADR) for the future.

The cost savings and accessibility of online mediation by experienced accredited mediators  have enhanced the already significant advantages of mediation (and indeed arbitration) as compared to an expensive and delayed Court hearing.  The face of ADR has changed forever.”
