Last week, Josh Randall and Kiran Grewal from our Watts McCray Commercial team presented a forum titled “Providing for your family” to members of North West Disability Services at Baulkham Hills. The forum was designed to provide information on Succession Planning and the establishment of Testamentary and Special Disability Trusts.
The forum focused on the benefits of having good financial strategies to protect and provide for children and young adults with intellectual and physical disabilities, both during the lives and after the death of the carers. Important factors included working with the National Disability Insurance Scheme, Centrelink and accountants to arrange affairs to minimise tax to ensure the best provisions can be made for those needing ongoing care.
The forum was highly interactive with the participants showing great interest and knowledge of the issues involved in this difficult area. Some of the stories told were heart wrenching and demonstrated clearly the need for this type of planning.
Watts McCray was also represented by Special Counsel, Maurice Edwards who spoke about the use of wills, and Powers of Attorney and Guardianship arrangements.
Our director, Justin Dowd, who has also been a director of NWDS for several years said “the forum was very successful in identifying the needs of the participants and in providing real solutions for them. The need to know your entitlements and to pursue them vigorously was also clear to everyone present”
The forum was so successful that Watts McCray will offer a Webinar to interested participants shortly.
