A Property Dispute Can be Determined by an Arbitrator

Arbitration for a Property Dispute

Just because you can’t reach an agreement on your family law property settlement does not mean you have to wait years for a court hearing.

A family law property dispute can be determined by an arbitrator at an arbitration, with or without a court referral.

A property settlement can therefore be resolved in three months not three years, even if an agreement cannot be reached.

Adjunct Professor Dr Jim Taggart OAM interviews Maurice Edwards, a family law arbitrator and Special Counsel at Watts McCray Lawyers, about family law arbitration.

Maurice explains the history, the process, the advantages and disadvantages and possible appeals of Arbitral Awards in the context of Family Law in this quick video interview.

He says a Court determination should generally be the last option for dispute resolution not the first.
