Family Law CLE by the Sea 2020

It’s that time again! On Thursday 19 March 2020 Watts McCray will be presenting their annual Family Law CLE by the Sea event at the Terrigal Surf Club from 4:00pm to 7.30pm (Registration from 3.30pm), chaired by the Honourable David Collier. The event will include presentations, papers and interactive discussions with speakers and topics to be available soon.

We have a fantastic line-up of speakers for the event in 2020 including:

  • Preparing for interim hearings involving risk and family violence issues and interim relocations – Federal Circuit Court Judge Janet Terry (Newcastle Registry)
  • The relationship between family law property claims after death and family provisions claims – Ian Coleman SC (Culwulla Chambers)
  • How to get the best from your Barrister – from a Barrister! Melissa Gillies SC (Culwulla Chambers)
  • The Hague Convention and the role of the Central Authority – Emily Thomas (Australian Central Authority for the Hague Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction, Attorney-General’s Department)

As well as the fantastic speakers already announced and detailed above, Watts McCray Lawyers are excited to host a panel of experts on international child abduction matters.

In addition to our speaker, Emily Thomas from the Commonwealth Attorney General’s office in Canberra (the department with the responsibility for ensuring Australia complies with its international obligations under the Hague Child Abduction Convention), there will be three delegates from the Department of Family and Communities (the body responsible for the implementation of the Child Abduction Convention in NSW for children abducted to or wrongly retained in NSW) and two delegates from International Social Services Australia (the body that assists ” left behind ” parents whose children have been abducted from Australia or have been wrongfully retained in other countries). Two of the delegates have been internationally trained in the mediation of child abduction matters in the context of family law proceedings.
