Australian Women Lawyers 7th National Conference on 24-26 August 2018

Watts McCray encourages the attendance of legal practitioners at the Australian Women Lawyers 7th National Conference that takes place at the Sofitel Wentworth Sydney next month. “Early bird” registration has been extended to 16 August 2018.  We are pleased to advise that our Managing Director Jacqueline Vincent, is presenting at a session on “Family Violence” alongside Ms Janet Loughman, Principal Solicitor of Women’s Legal Services NSW and Ms Rosslyn Chenoweth, Director for the Northern Territory and Director of Victims Services NT.

The Australian Women Lawyers Association has identified this year’s theme as “Investing in the Future” and as such the Conference will touch on contemporary issues of innovation and technology and the law, including the use of technology as an essential tool for lawyers to promote diversification, inclusion, quality leadership, best practice, flexible work options, the achievement of policy and law reform, and access to justice.

Other speakers at the Conference include NSW Attorney General The Honourable Mark Speakman SC, Patron of the Women Lawyers Association of NSW The Honourable Jane Matthews AO, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the ACT The Honourable Helen Murrell, President of the Court of Appeal Supreme Court of NSW The Honourable Margaret Beazley AO and Key Note speaker the Past President of the Australian Human Rights Commission Professor Gillian Triggs.

The AWL Conference was last hosted in Sydney in 2004.
