Fay Benel began practicing law in 2011 having commenced her legal career in Child Protection with the Department of Family and Community Services (FACS) in 2009 as a Child Protection Caseworker.

Fay transitioned from front line Child Protection to various legal departments within FACS including Child Law, General Litigation Team, Metro and South Care Legal Support Team and the International Kidnapping Team. In 2016, Fay began working exclusively in Family Law.

Fay has been praised for keen analytical abilities and capacity to evaluate information quickly, critically and accurately. Committed to ensuring appropriate quality case management and authoritative advice on diverse files. Fay’s expertise includes interstate and international relocation, Hague Convention matters (international child abduction), child support, spousal maintenance, and complex property matters. Fay is skilled at drafting legal documents including Binding Financial Agreements, Child Support Agreements and other Court documents. Fay has appeared as an advocate in the Federal Circuit Court, and the Family Court in Sydney and Parramatta.

Fay’s empathy is coupled with her excellent ability to advocate on behalf of her clients. Fay takes the time to listen and thoroughly understand her client’s needs, providing clear and concise advice and options as well helping a client regain control of their lives during a very difficult time.

Fay grew up in Sydney’s St. George area and attended The University of Sydney where she completed a Bachelor of Economics (Social Sciences) majoring in Government and International Relations 2003. Fay’s passion for the law led her to complete a Juris Doctor in 2011 at the University of Technology Sydney. Fay was subsequently admitted in 2011 by the NSW Supreme Court.

After dedicating her early career to the care and protection of children within the NSW Public Service Fay moved exclusively into the area of family law.

Active within her local community and a strong believer in social justice Fay has tirelessly volunteered in several Community Legal Centers including the Aboriginal Legal Service, Macquarie Legal Centre and Redfern Legal Centre.
