Lawasia Takes Action on Humanitarian Issues in Myanmar and the Maldives

A meeting of the Lawasia Executive Committee, including our Director, Justin Dowd as Vice President of Lawasia, was held in Kuala Lumpur recently.

Special attention was directed to humanitarian and rule of law issues in the region, particularly in the Maldives and in Myanmar. Justin is chairing a Lawasia Task Force in respect of the Myanmar crisis and met with Mr Stefan Preisner, the UN Resident Coordinator for Malaysia and with Tan Sri Razali Bin Ismael, the Chairman of the Malaysian Human Rights Commission and Commissioners Pheng, Saleh and Joseph. The Task Force will provide reports and recommendations to Lawasia on these issues for publication in the coming months.
