The World Congress and LAWASIA are two organisations devoted to the welfare of children and the promotion of Family Law. This year, they are joining forces to hold the 8th Family Law and Children’s Rights Conference in Singapore between the 19-22 of July 2020, with the theme of the Congress being; “Vision 2020: through the eyes of a child”.
The Congress will welcome over 500 delegates and speakers from around the world to challenge protocols and to formulate resolutions, not only in their own jurisdiction but to provide support for those endeavouring to change laws relating to the denial of human rights for children globally.
The areas of family law and children’s rights remain exciting, challenging and fast-moving areas of legal scholarship and practice and the Congress has established itself as the leading international forum for discussion and deliberation on these issues.
Justin Dowd AM, Director of Watts McCray, is a Director of the World Congress and also Vice President of Lawasia.
He is one of the prime organisers of the event, and says: “We are excited that the Congress is taking place in Asia for the first time and that this will occur in Singapore. We have a stellar cast of speakers and delegates attending. The Chair of the Organising Committee is the Hon Diana Bryant, AM, who is a retired Chief Justice of the Family Court of Australia. We are also delighted to announce that the President of Singapore, Halimah Yacob, has agreed to be patron of the congress”.
