The Honourable Eric Baker was one of the leading Judges of the Family Court of Australia for a period of more than 20 years. His Judgments have made a major contribution to explaining how the Family Law Act operates and his experience as a member of the Appeal Division of the Family Court is a valuable resource.

Eric has been a member of several councils including the Council of the Australian Institute of Judicial Administration, the Board of the Marriage Guidance Council of New South Wales and of Relationships Australia- NSW, the Child Protection Council and the Chair of its Legal Committee. He has also presented many papers at a variety of international conferences and seminars.

BACKGROUND

Eric studied Law at Sydney University and then was a Partner in a family law firm for 24 years before his appointment as a Judge of the Family Court of Australia in 1978. He retired from his position and subsequently joined Watts McCray as Special Counsel in 1999.

Eric is also an Accredited Mediator and Arbitrator in Family Law and has developed considerable expertise as a conciliator.
