Reform of Courts - Good News Story for Family Law Cases
In Response to the Attorney General’s announcement regarding the reform of the Federal Courts (5 May 2009), Jackie Vincent, Partner at Watts McCray and Accredited Family Law Specialist commented
“The Attorney-General’s announcement that there would be a restructure of the Federal Courts “to more effectively deliver legal and justice services to the community” was welcomed news”
Ms Vincent offered that
“Under the current Court system many of my clients find the process confusing and frustrating. These frustrations are borne out of seeing two courts apparently dealing with the same law and the length of time it has taken in the past to get matters listed and resolved in the courts”. The Government has obviously recognised the failings of the system and the financial and emotional pressures caused, which is commendable.”
Ms Vincent went on to say that she was happy to see the Government undertake to reinvest savings made through the restructure by providing support for families and promoting resolution of disputes through non-adversarial methods.
“Contrary to popular belief” Ms Vincent offered “a good solicitor is dedicated to finding the best path of resolution for their client which is often the utilisation of alternate tools such as mediation, arbitration and collaborative law. It’s about supporting families to get back to a normal life.”
